The Dead Stream!
Have you heard the good news? HAVE YOU???
Funny thing is, when the announcement came out this morning about The Rise of Skywalker showing upon Disney+ next Monday (because May the 4th, duh), my first reaction was, “Sheesh, what took so long?”
Of course, the reality of the situation is that it’s only been three and a half months since The Rise of Skywalker arrived in theaters and was definitely a great film that everyone loved because it’s just so good at tying up all those loose ends. Ahem. (If it’s not already something you know, I’ll just say I love The Last Jedi and leave it at that.) Since it’s only been a few months, the Disney+ press release understandably went out of its way to say the film was arriving on the streaming service a couple months early. Which, great. Good for you. But also, we’re seven weeks into quarantine. Kind of feels like waiting until July would’ve been silly!
I would also point out, per my frustrated post on Friday, it’s strange to see Disney+ releasing monthly lists of upcoming titles when those lists are expanding and contracting often on a daily basis. (Don’t forget that The Princess Bride is arriving on May 1.) But anyway. If you’re the kind of person who was jonesing for The Rise of Skywalker to stream next week, today’s a good day. For the rest of us…it’s a day.
Your Recommendation for Today
I wrote at mild length last Friday, as just mentioned, about the distressing lack of two early Walt Disney anthology TV series episodes on Disney+, “Man in Space” and “Mars and Beyond”. While I hope that Disney+ does post them soon, for now, you should just do what I’ve done over the weekend. Watch the episodes on YouTube.
I’ll thank here Ian Wilmoth for the tweets below, cluing me into the reality that these episodes may not be in crisp HD, but they do exist to stream right now.
Of course, you might think, it sure would be nice if Disney released these titles in an official capacity instead of people resorting to YouTube.
And you’re right! It would be nice if Disney did that. Maybe one day.
