The Disney Theme-Park Background Music Bracket -- Round Two, Day Two
I know this is probably your first flight...
Good morning, friends! It’s Hump Day, the middle of the week, and a wonderful time for me to reveal an important scheduling detail. As luck (fate?) would have it, I’m going to be traveling next week for work. (Yes, it’s true, I have a job that has literally nothing to do with Disney, or Substack, or movies, or whatever.) Because of that trip, I’m going to be pausing this bracket after the current round wraps up for a week. Basically, once Round Two of the Disney Theme-Park Background Music bracket ends after this Friday’s post, I’ll be holding on starting the next round until next Friday, the 21st.
You’ll manage. For now, let’s vote!
(1) Fantasyland Dark Ride Suite vs. (9) Star Tours loop: While the Dark Ride Suite isn’t really background music the way things like the Star Tours loop are, there’s a similarity in both of these tracks. Each of them serves as a medley derived from a series of films. (I would’ve said “beloved,” but people have very strong opinions about the Star Wars series that I would not slot into the “beloved” category.) I’ll be sticking with the old-fashioned route this time around and voting for the Dark Ride Suite. Sometimes, all you want from a background-music track is the evocation of wonderful memories, and the Dark Ride Suite is like lightning in a bottle in that regard.
But that’s just me. How do you vote?
Fantasyland Dark Ride Suite
Star Tours
(4) Disneyland Hotel - Adventure Tower loop vs. (5) Rivers of America loop: While I still wish that the Steakhouse 55 background loop had managed to make it to this round as opposed to the Adventure Tower loop, that latter loop is what I’ll be voting for here. I have made it plainly clear that I love the slinky, seductive tones of music from films like The Jungle Book, and this 32-minute track is awash in those very same tones. The Rivers of America loop is very charming, having kept me aural company at home often as well as when waiting for Fantasmic! to start in the evening, but it’s not the Adventure I’m looking for now.
…get it? Do you…do you get it? …Oh, just vote.
Disneyland Hotel - Adventure Tower
Rivers of America
(2) Buena Vista Street loop vs. (10) The Land loop: I know many of us have a soft spot for The Land, but this one is a very easy matchup for me. I’ll be voting here for the Buena Vista Street loop, with its many bouncy jazz-infused instrumental pieces. It’s hard, if not impossible, to resist its charms.
I hope you agree, but let’s find out together.
Buena Vista Street
The Land
(3) World of Color soundtrack vs. (6) Caribbean Plaza loop: Another one where I can’t help but have a snap judgment with no hesitation. It’s World of Color for me once again, because I just can’t help but gravitate towards the nighttime spectaculars whenever possible. Caribbean Plaza is like many other tracks here, in that it has no hope against such an excellent piece of music. (Next round, I may have a difficult choice in front of me, though.)
Vote!
World of Color
Caribbean Plaza
I had to vote for The Land because, the second I clicked that music link, I had such a great memory. Again, that's how I've been voting in this poll!
