Welcome to the first weekend of August, friends! Hopefully you’re all doing well, and hopefully you, like me, have chosen to forget that Major League Baseball had a season this year. (I haven’t talked about the Mets lately, because what is there to talk about? They just skipped the entire season! Wild!)
Anyway, we’re now halfway through the fourth round of the Ultimate Disney Parks Attraction bracket, and thus halfway through deciding what the Sweet Sixteen will look like. Some more tough decisions today, so let’s dive right in.
(1) Flight of Passage vs. (9) Main Street Electrical Parade: This one, for me, is not a terribly tough decision. Bias, again, may be showing — I still have not experienced the Flight of Passage attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom (because I haven’t been to the park since before the Avatar-themed area opened). But the Main Street Electrical Parade is about as quintessentially Disney as you can get at the theme parks, no matter which coast you’re on.
Could this be the first one-seed to fall? Well, that’s up to you. How do you vote?
Flight of Passage
Main Street Electrical Parade
(13) Tomorrowland Transit Authority vs. (12) Pirates of the Caribbean (WDW): Did you know that, in the last round, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority (AKA the PeopleMover) beat the Jungle Cruise ride at Disneyland by a single vote. One vote! Literally one of you out there was the decision-maker.
I…really cannot imagine a scenario in which that is the case today. Because the Pirates of the Caribbean are going to move on, I…presume.
Right?
Tomorrowland Transit Authority
Pirates of the Caribbean (WDW)
(2) The Haunted Mansion (DL) vs. (7) Matterhorn Bobsleds: A toughie, for sure. Two Disneyland Park rides, both of which are arguably as classic as it gets.
On one hand, you can make the case that Matterhorn Bobsleds should win because it stays true to itself all year long, whereas the Haunted Mansion gets a Nightmare Before Christmas overhaul for four months a year (even though The Nightmare Before Christmas is…a Christmas movie and not a Halloween one). On the other hand, you could argue that the atmosphere of The Haunted Mansion is impressive enough all year long, and possibly more so than the circular walk around the Matterhorn when you’re in line (at least, in the old days of how the queue was managed).
It’s close to a coin flip for me. What do you think?
The Haunted Mansion (DL)
Matterhorn Bobsleds
(3) Tower of Terror vs. (11) Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway: I get that the Mickey and Minnie attraction is the new hotness. (And I am right there with anyone disappointed by the news that Disney is no longer producing new Mickey Mouse shorts from Paul Rudish and his team, seeing as those shorts…inspired the attraction. Not Great, Bob!)
But the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is very close to being the best attraction in the entire Disney parks. It’s now unique in the States to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and remains worth the price of admission all on its own. The Tower of Terror should move on, full stop.
But that’s my take. How do you vote?
Tower of Terror
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Josh seems to underestimate how many people love the PeopleMover. Possibly the one ride I can hit up multiple times at Magic and never get bored of.
Shoutout to the Disneyland version of Pirates, whose existence granted me the opportunity to vote for the PeopleMover over its east coast cousin.
