As the photo above this paragraph implies, the long wait is over as we reach the penultimate day of the first round of the Ultimate TV Comedies Bracket. Time to vote for the puffy shirt, the Soup Nazi, the double-dip, the shrinkage, and you get the idea.

(3) Seinfeld vs. (62) I Dream of Jeannie: On one hand, I will admit that of the big 90s sitcom hits from NBC, Seinfeld might be…my least favorite (compared to Frasier and Friends)? But still, it’s Seinfeld, and he’s…Keith Hernandez. Vote for Jerry and pals.

(30) Happy Endings vs. (35) What We Do in the Shadows: I am voting for Happy Endings for one reason and one reason alone, and you might be able to guess what it is: I…have not seen What We Do in the Shadows. I know about the show enough to understand that Jackie Daytona is…a joke? A character? I don’t know. You’ll fill me in, I’m sure, in the comments section. But I liked the loopiness of Happy Endings so much, and hope it can pull off a victory here.

(14) Black Adder vs. (51) A Different World: So, for anyone who doesn’t know, yes, that is Mr. Bean above this text. If you do know, then I want to clarify that if you’re voting on Black Adder, that means you’re voting on any and all of the seasons, spanning many centuries of British history. And of course, you may choose to vote for A Different World instead, but for me, it’s the pitch-black Black Adder all the way, a vastly more uncompromising comedy than you might expect from the man who brought us Love Actually.

(19) Extras vs. (46) Will and Grace: Somewhere in between Extras and today, Ricky Gervais became a lot less funny to me and a lot more obnoxious. But Extras worked very well because he was as critical of celebrity culture as he was of himself. Plus, getting the late David Bowie to do what he does in the clip below is enough to get my vote today.
