The Ultimate Walt Disney Company Performances Bracket -- Round Five, Day Three
Wakanda forever.
We’re halfway through the Sweet Sixteen of the Ultimate Walt Disney Company Performances bracket, folks. And the matchups aren’t going to get any easier from this point forward, especially since we have four truly remarkable performances going head to head today, with just two surviving to the next round.
Ready? Let’s go!
(1) Tom Hanks, Toy Story vs. (5) Chadwick Boseman, Black Panther: That’s Tom Hanks refusing to hear you tell him you’re voting against him. I, for one, will not be voting against him. Though it’s hard to say goodbye here to Chadwick Boseman for his ultra-charismatic performance as King T’Challa of Wakanda, I do think Hanks gets the vote for being funnier and having enough energy to hit the emotional highs of playing Sheriff Woody in the first Toy Story.
But that’s just me. My vote doesn’t do a whole lot here (as in, nothing). What do you think?
(2) John Goodman, Monsters, Inc. vs. (11) Angela Lansbury, Beauty and the Beast: John Goodman is excellent as Sulley in Monsters, Inc., but, and I must acknowledge that I am repeating something I’ve already said, Angela Lansbury is Angela fucking Lansbury. (I’ve said it somewhere, maybe not here, but trust me, the words have been spoken.) Sulley is a bigger role, yes, but Mrs. Potts is a warm and inviting presence, and I am telling you, Lansbury’s performance of the title song from the 1991 classic is more than enough to get my vote.
You?
You don't have to listen to me, Woody. You know what you did! Mrs. Potts, I voted for you, though.
I’ve got a dog named Hanx and a Tom Hanks poster hanging in my kitchen. Sorry Chadwick, but I don’t really have a choice.
