The Ultimate Walt Disney Company Performances Bracket -- Round One, Day Ten

I'm gonna wreck it!

Hello, everyone! We’ve got some exciting matchups today, taking us from a galaxy far, far away all the way to the depths of the sea (at least…oh, say, 18,000 leagues under the sea).

So let’s not dilly-dally — get ready to vote!

(8) Carrie Fisher, The Empire Strikes Back vs. (57) Britt Robertson, Tomorrowland: I admire the 2015 Tomorrowland, even though I’m not a huge fan of the film, certainly not compared to its cult fanbase. I like Britt Robertson’s performance in the film, too, and don’t want to give it too much short shrift by ignoring it here. But…well, Carrie Fisher is Carrie Fisher, and I don’t think I need to explain further why she should get the vote in this matchup.

(25) John C. Reilly, Wreck-It Ralph vs. (40) Thomas Haden Church, George of the Jungle: One of these days, I should regale you all with the tale of watching Wreck-It Ralph at a test screening attended by John Lasseter, a tale that concludes with me taking part in a focus-group discussion in which I revealed my many criticisms with Wreck-It Ralph. (John Lasseter sat in on the focus group too.) But today is not that day, though maybe later on in this bracket, the day will come. While I like Reilly’s performance — it’s the one aspect of the film I do uncritically enjoy — I will stick with the underrated comic hamming of Thomas Haden Church in the very funny George of the Jungle. Vote for the guy at whom we will now point and laugh!

(9) Keith David, The Princess and the Frog vs. (56) Sigourney Weaver, WALL-E: I enjoy the Easter-Egg-style joke of having Sigourney Weaver voice a computer system on a spaceship, and I clearly enjoy the joke enough to add her into the bracket. But Keith David’s performance as Dr. Facilier is one of the many high points of my favorite modern Disney animated film. Keith David is as good as it gets in terms of character actors, and his work here is without peer. Vote for the man.

(24) James Mason, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea vs. (41) Warren Beatty, Dick Tracy: That’s right, everyone, it’s a Heaven Can Wait battle! I’m sure you all understand that reference, or will head to Wikipedia to figure it out. In this battle, I would push a bit harder for James Mason than Warren Beatty (but I am also not the biggest fan of Beatty’s Dick Tracy, either the film or his toothy performance). But I can see the old-fashioned crime-fighter taking this one. What say you?
