The Ultimate Walt Disney Company Performances Bracket -- Round One, Day Eleven
Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Long time.
Friends, if you don’t vote in today’s matchups, Tommy Lee Jones is going to glower at you very much like he did in the film captured above. He cannot sanction your buffoonery if you don’t vote.
So get ready to weigh in!
(4) Holly Hunter, The Incredibles vs. (61) Scott Adsit, Big Hero 6: I like Big Hero 6, I think Baymax is a fun character, I think Scott Adsit is good as Baymax, and yet, we all know that he’s not going to win this one. It’s Holly Hunter for the win here (and I would not be surprised if she goes extremely far in this overall bracket.) No questions.
(29) Clarence Nash, The Three Caballeros vs. (36) Ginnifer Goodwin, Zootopia: This one’s tough, to a point. I will lean here in favor of the man and duck captured in the photo above, in part because…well, it’s Donald Duck. And Donald Duck is one of the most iconic, quintessential characters in the company’s history. (Donald did win the Ultimate Disney Characters bracket, you know.) But I think Ginnifer Goodwin does a very good job as Judy Hopps, so I can understand why some folks might vote in her direction. I’m with the duck, though. How about you?
(13) Alec Guinness, Star Wars vs. (52) Tommy Lee Jones, Lincoln: While I would safely wager that Alec Guinness, Mr. Genuine Class himself, will win this matchup, let’s not forget Tommy Lee Jones, Mr. Tommy Lee…Jone’s himself, and his enormously entertaining turn in Lincoln. I kind of want to side with Jones here, as I think he gets to do a bit more than Guinness does (though what Guinness does as Obi-Wan in the first Star Wars is pretty foundational to a lot of viewers). But it’s up to you, so vote!
(20) Angela Lansbury, Bedknobs and Broomsticks vs. (45) Julie Andrews, The Princess Diaries: This is not tough for me, though I imagine it may be more challenging for some of you. Two Disney legends are going head to head in this match, yes, but while I unhesitatingly support Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins, I’m not so willing to do so for her performance in The Princess Diaries. (It gave us Anne Hathaway, yes, but it’s also another lazy example — to my eye — of the tired old “If you straighten this young woman’s hair and take off her glasses, ohmiGod, she’s gorgeous!” trope.) Angela Lansbury is also a legend, and I’m partial to her witchy work in Bedknobs and Broomsticks. How do you vote?
I'd never vote against Ducky Nash.
Here is a ball. Perhaps you'd like to bounce it. :)
