The Ultimate Walt Disney Company Performances Bracket -- Round Five, Day Two

Who else is ready to dive straight into today’s matchups? I don’t want to spend a lot of time dilly-dallying around here. Some exciting/tough choices for you to make today, so let’s not waste any more time. Start voting!

(1) Julie Andrews, Mary Poppins vs. (4) Holly Hunter, The Incredibles: I alluded to this yesterday, but my personal Elite Eight is…well, honestly, my personal Elite Eight made it pretty close to all landing in the Sweet Sixteen. (Meaning that if it wasn’t for the Bob Hoskins upset, all eight of my choices would’ve been in this round, and thus given a chance to move forward.) For my Elite Eight in this quadrant of the bracket, I would’ve sent two English icons forward.

And wouldn’t you know it, they’re each still here. Yes, I would vote for Julie Andrews in this roundup, because while Holly Hunter is excellent as Elastigirl, she’s an actress with enough great work such that one role does not define her. For better or worse, Julie Andrews has just a couple roles that truly define her career. Arguably, one of them is as Maria in The Sound of Music, but the other one is Mary Poppins. It netted her an Oscar for a reason. Andrews gets my vote once again.

(2) Michael Caine, The Muppet Christmas Carol vs. (11) Christopher Lloyd, Who Framed Roger Rabbit: As I noted above, two English icons for the next round. Andrews and Caine. If it was up to me, that would be the next stage for these two legends, to face off against each other. That should be fun! But anyway, Michael Caine’s work as Ebenezer Scrooge is justly celebrated, and while Christopher Lloyd is indeed terrifying as Judge Doom, Michael Caine’s Scrooge only blew the bloody doors off (just as Dickens wrote).
