Together Again, Again
The Muppets are taking a break for now, so don’t let the title fool you. It’s a new day, and with the live-action movies bracket behind us, time for a new bracket…with a twist.
Let me show you.
So, as you can see, this bracket of 64 seeds is all about characters from Disney and Pixar’s animated films. That’s one half of the twist — the previous movie-related brackets really haven’t had a lot of room for Pixar. (A future bracket will give the films their day in court.)
The bigger half is something I’m sure you’ve already noticed: one half of the bracket is dedicated to heroes. The other half is dedicated to villains. We can debate how much nuance there is in calling certain characters heroes or villains — for now, let’s pause on the “But Ursula is misunderstood!” takes. We’re going for traditional-style heroes and villains here, thus ensuring that the Top Two vote is really a vote between the best Disney hero and the best Disney villain, as voted on by you.
A few notes: first, I’ve only included those characters who appear in Disney’s feature canon and in Pixar’s feature canon. Could I have included Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck, both of whom appear with their pal Goofy in a segment of Fun and Fancy Free? Absolutely! But as you will see, I did not. I mostly, but not entirely, avoided the package films. (The Headless Horseman is a worthy exception to the rule.)
There are also a lot of films I may have excluded here. Each bracket has brought with it a few more people wondering why I choose what I choose, why I seed them where I do, etc. Though I impose a few rules on myself, they are bendable rules, and at the end of the day, this all boils down to one irrefutable truth: I’m cooped up in my house, bored out of my mind, and I just want to do something fun. Thus, the brackets. There is only so much logic you can apply to them.
Another note: it is entirely possible that some of the seeding choices I have made horrify you. Here’s something important to keep in mind, though — I like a lot, a lot, A LOT of the characters among these 64. Take Elastigirl, for example. She’s great! A complex character brought remarkably to life by animators and Holly Hunter! I realize she’s seeded 14th. I do not mean it as an insult. (Frankly, I kinda think she’ll win the first round.) Seeding in this bracket does not imply critical commentary. Trust me.
And now…vote.
