Good morning, friends. It sure was a wild night, right? We all thought one thing was going to happen, and then something entirely different happened.
I am, of course, referring to this news.
(I am not a big fan of Jon Heyman as a writer, considering how often it feels like he’s dragging the Mets, but he also clearly has the ear of the team’s massively wealthy owner, which is how you get breaking news like this.)
I remain slightly hesitant for two reasons: Carlos Correa had some level of involvement (or so the story goes) in the 2017 Astros cheating scandal, and…y’know, not a big fan of cheaters over here! But more pressing, I wonder what exactly cropped up on Correa’s physical to lead the Giants to postpone a big press conference, let alone possibly try to renegotiate. But we’ll see about that soon enough, I guess. (Correa’s deal with the Mets is also pending a physical, and it is also notably a whopping one year less.)
But you’re not here to talk about the Mets, though you should be. (I noted as much on Mastodon a couple days ago, but I am primarily using Twitter these days to follow breaking offseason stories like this. Gotta talk baseball somehow!)
You’re here to celebrate the winner of the Disney Parks Live-Entertainment bracket…IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. I am both pleased and a little shocked. I genuinely didn’t think that IllumiNations could stand up against both Fantasmic and World of Color, but you, the voters, proved me wrong. An excellent show that Bob Iger ought to bring back! Do it, Bob.
Now, with the bracket wrapped up, you’ll get a break on seeing daily newsletters from me for…well, just a couple weeks. I cannot guarantee that I’ll keep doing brackets all the time moving forward (a lot more of you subscribe to this newsletter than voted in the bracket, I will note, and I’d love to see the voting numbers bump up).
But on Tuesday, January 3, I will return with a new bracket. (And you’ll see some newsletters in between now and then.) And it’s a big one.
The Ultimate Walt Disney Company Performances bracket. 256 seeds to decide one all-time great performance among the films of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Touchstone, and more.
Get excited.
No pressure at all...I know these take a LOT of work. But just so you know these brackets bring so much joy. I look forward to the matchups daily. If they continue to bring YOU joy, I’d encourage you to keep them up. Just my two cents. Thanks, Josh!
The Correa news was something to wake up to for this Giants fan, for sure. Will be interesting to see what actually happened to derail that deal.
Oh and yay, Illuminations.
