In some ways, I suppose it was an inevitability. When you place The Simpsons in a bracket of the best in any aspect of TV, it should not come as a surprise when the Fox animated sitcom holds its own against all comers. And even against the lovable losers in a basement bar in Boston…well, perhaps especially against such lovable losers, there was only so much tension. We began with 128 seeds in the Ultimate TV Comedies bracket, but today, we have one winner…
Yes, that’s right, it’s The Simpsons. Congratulations to a show that has been on the air literally as long as Taylor Swift has been alive! Oh, fine, I’m just kidding. Taylor Swift is four days older than The Simpsons. (I am basing this on when the series began airing regular full-length episodes, and I had to verify Swift’s birthday on Wikipedia. I knew she was born in 1989, but was shocked at the proximity of the two events!)
OK, so what’s next? Well, with the holidays approaching, the brackets will be taking a few weeks off. In fact, our next bracket won’t begin until Monday, January 8. In between now and then, I’ll post one more weekly post for paid subscribers (this coming Monday), as well as a rundown of my picks of the best films of 2023. The latter is something I’ll make available to all subscribers, but you really ought to consider boosting your subscription from free to paid — for as low as $5 a month!
Ah, but you want to know…what comes next with that bracket in January? Well, I’m going to be hungry, and I’m going to want to go back to the Disney theme parks. So I think we need to relitigate the PizzeRizzo affair.
I think we need to do an Ultimate Disney Parks Restaurants bracket.
For now, I hope you have a safe and happy holiday season! We’ll talk soon.
This bracket was great. Enjoy your break and have a wonderful end of the year, everyone!
Happy holidays!
Will be ready to get my grub on come 1/8
