The Disney Parks Live-Entertainment Bracket -- Round Two, Day Four
Good morning, friends, and thank God it’s the weekend. (And I don’t mean The Weeknd, whose end-credits song in an upcoming new movie is…certainly a thing I heard this week. Lower your expectations there.) I, for one, am very happy for the end of the week, not just because it means that we’re very close to the Sweet Sixteen of the Disney Parks Live-Entertainment bracket.
Full disclosure: there has been just one (1) surprising and sad loss so far: Voices of Liberty was taken down by Happily Ever After a couple days ago in this round, and…I mean, listen, you folks will vote how you vote. But you know what?
Anyway, let’s vote again.
(1) World of Color vs. (8) A Christmas Fantasy Parade: Listen, I really like A Christmas Fantasy Parade, not just because I enjoy the secularized holiday season, but because of the joy I know it brings my kids. (This, by the way, is how Disney keeps its hooks in parents — it’s not impossible to say no to return trips considering the cost, but it becomes harder when you see how delighted your kids are at shows like this.) So please know that when I say I prefer World of Color, it’s a somewhat difficult choice.
But World of Color — and we’re just talking about the original-recipe version here, please note — is a hell of a thing. I wish I didn’t have to stand for the whole show, and…that’s just about my only criticism, even years after it premiered. One of the very best nighttime shows there is, short of watching the Bellagio fountains in Vegas like you’re Rusty Ryan and crew. Now, though, it’s time for you to vote.
(4) Wishes vs. (5) Frozen Live at the Hyperion: At a certain point, sitting down in a well-ventilated theater for an hour can only hold so much sway. Yes, it’s nice to sit down on your keister for an hour, but Wishes, like many of the best Disney fireworks shows, rises above any strain on the ol’ legs. But will Anna and Elsa win your vote today? You tell me.
(2) Mickey and the Magical Map vs. (10) Disney’s Spirit of Aloha: I miss Mickey and the Magical Map. I just do. I like the Lion King show that is its replacement at the Fantasyland Theatre, but I like this show a lot more, as you can tell from the seeding. (Sometimes, the seeding is based on my preference. What can I tell you?) So as much as I enjoy Tiki culture, I vote here for Mickey and his map of magic.
(3) Remember Dreams Come True vs. (6) Dapper Dans (Disneyland): This one’s tough. On one hand, I adore Remember Dreams Come True. On the other, with the Walt Disney World version of the Dapper Dans having been taken down, there’s just one barbershop quartet left, and I know many of you are big fans. (And I like them a lot too.) So…this one’s a hard choice! I think I might, if I was voting, do the thing where I close my eyes and just click on one option, damn the consequences. But it’s not up to you. What do you think?
