The Ultimate Disney Parks Attraction Bracket -- Round One, Day Fourteen
Do you want to build a snowman?
You know what, folks? I love films. I love films, you know? Films like The Conversation and The Godfather. I love films. And we’re talking about some great films today, even in the guise of the matchups in the first round of the Ultimate Disney Parks Attraction bracket. So strap in (and I hope you enjoyed this episode of I Love Films/understand the reference I’m making).
Let’s start the vote!
(7) The Great Movie Ride vs. (58) Green Army Drum Corps: See? Films! We’re talking about great films today. On one hand, you have a celebration of films that Disney cruelly closed down even after making a partnership with Turner Classic Movies; on the other, you have a live musical performance inspired by the excellent Toy Story. Now, I’m going to vote for The Great Movie Ride, because…well, duh. But the Green Army Drum Corps puts on a fun show too.
How do you vote?
The Great Movie Ride
Green Army Drum Corps
(26) SpectroMagic vs. (39) The Living Seas: My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Walt Disney World Resort nearly 15 years ago (as in, my 15-year wedding anniversary is four days after this newsletter posts). And one of our more treasured memories was getting to watch SpectroMagic, which is something of a riff on the Main Street Electrical Parade but still manages to feel fresh and distinctive. The Living Seas are all well and good, but for me, there’s an easy vote here.
What do you think?
SpectroMagic
The Living Seas
(10) The Haunted Mansion (WDW) vs. (55) Royal Street Bachelors: While I do kind of prefer the New Orleans Square vibe of the original Haunted Mansion in Disneyland (and to that end, I like the Royal Street Bachelors), I will obviously vote here for the house looking for its 1,000th haunt.
Any volunteers? Er, I mean, voters?
The Haunted Mansion (WDW)
Royal Street Bachelors
(23) Electrical Water Pageant vs. (42) Frozen Ever After: On another trip my wife and I took to Walt Disney World — we’ve visited three times, including the aforementioned honeymoon — we had dinner at the lovely Narcoossee’s at the Grand Floridian, timed so we could watch the Electrical Water Pageant sail by the Seven Seas Lagoon next to the pier on which the restaurant stood.
Oh, also, I have a shirt commemorating the closing of Maelstrom that I really ought to dig out of my closet. So, uh…it’s the Electrical Water Pageant for me. How about you?
Electrical Water Pageant
Frozen Ever After
I actually really enjoy Frozen Ever After. But the electrical water pageant is one of those Disney things that just bring me so much joy that it even exists at all.
I know it's unlikely but I voted for Frozen Ever After on the slim hope it can go against Maelstrom in the semis because I am a terrible, terrible person.
