The Ultimate Disney Parks Attraction Bracket -- Round Six, Day Four
What do they know, they're tourists.
Where does the weekend go, friends? That’s the question I find myself asking on most Monday mornings and I’m guessing this one will be no different. (He said while typing these words the previous Friday.)
But because it’s a Monday, that means it’s time once more for me to remind you that paid subscribers have already received this week’s essay! It’s time for another entry in the Out of the Disney Vault series, and this time around, I’m heading to Mars and Beyond, an episode of the Walt Disney anthology TV series streaming on Disney+. You’ve all gotten a preview, but if you subscribe for as low as $5 a month or $50 a year, you could be reading this essay right now:
Anyway, today marks the final day of the Elite Eight of the Ultimate Disney Parks Attraction bracket. Our past round featured a razor-thin margin in the last day as well — Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is only here thanks to one of you. Literally, it beat the Jungle Cruise by a single vote in the final hour of the vote, so whoever you are (it’s my good friend Bob Iger, isn’t it?), you made this happen.
But will the big mountain move forward? Let’s find out!
(4) Muppet*Vision 3D vs. (3) Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (WDW): As many of you know, I am usually a ride-or-die type when it comes to the Muppets, especially the Henson era of those beloved felt creations. (I say the Henson era, and I hope you know I mean the time during which Jim Henson was alive. Kind of a bummer to think about the fact that the Muppets have been around almost as long without Henson as they were with him.)
But the operative word there is “usually”. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a perfect roller-coaster attraction to me, and as much as I love how Henson and company play with the form of 3D filmmaking, it cannot measure up to Big Thunder. It comes close! And I won’t be surprised if it wins, but if you ask me for my vote, I gotta hold onto my hats and glasses (I am wearing multiple hats right now) and go for the wildest ride in the wilderness.
How about you?
Muppet*Vision 3D
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (WDW)
I look at it as: Disney has plenty of coasters now, and many are better than this one. Meanwhile, Muppets 3D is still my favorite 3D show in the parks. The fact that my son (5 at the time) had me make full sized, working Mahna-Mahna and The Snowths is - er - not at all further influencing my pick.
The silent majority appears to disagree with me, but I hope things turn around.
Gotta go with Muppet 3d!!!
