The Ultimate Disney Parks Attraction Bracket -- Round One, Day Twenty-Three
You've just entered...the Twilight Zone.
Friends, it’s a very special day. It’s not just a Tuesday, and it’s not just nearly the end of June. It’s also the day that I just might get to see Ethan Hunt face the first part of a dead reckoning in theaters.
OK, so it’s a very special day for me. For all of you, it’s time to dive into today’s set of matchups in the first round of the Ultimate Disney Parks Attraction bracket. Let’s go!
(3) The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror vs. (62) Pixie Hollow: Who among us is to say which attractions will or won’t move close to the finale of this bracket? I can only hazard a guess at this point, but there is a strong part of me that would not be disappointed to see the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror make it to the big finish. There’s no question that it should win this matchup, but then, you knew that already.
Right?
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
Pixie Hollow
(30) Skyway (DL) vs. (35) Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind: I have little doubt that the big, shiny, new ride at Epcot is going to win this matchup. It’s big! It’s shiny! It’s new! It has nothing to do with the original thematic aims of Epcot! Alas on that last point. Anyway, as much as I imagine the Guardians of the Galaxy will take the day, I will be voting for the Disneyland version of the old, defunct Skyway. Call it nostalgia, or call it railing against windmills. But I can’t give my vote here to the Guardians. (And I look forward to the cosmic justice of the Tower of Terror eventually taking them down.)
How do you vote?
Skyway (DL)
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
(14) Country Bear Jamboree vs. (51) El Rio del Tiempo: I may have specified this before, but man, I just do not like the Country Bear Jamboree. I realize this is an unpopular opinion. I know. You can go nuts on me in the comments. I just don’t care for the attraction, outside of being able to sit on my keister for 15 minutes in an enclosed space. With that in mind, I’m voting as much for the now-long-gone El Rio del Tiempo as I am voting against the bears.
What say you?
Country Bear Jamboree
El Rio del Tiempo
(19) Storybook Land Canal Boats vs. (46) Walt Disney Presents: To follow up on a note from a recent newsletter, when you consider whether or not to vote on the Walt Disney Presents attraction, keep in mind that it’s not the same as the “One Man’s Dream” movie existing within that attraction. It’s meant to be the gallery surrounding said film.
And in spite of all that, I’ll be voting for the very quaint and charming Storybook Land Canal Boats. The loading process can be a bit of a headache, but the ride itself is fun.
How do you all vote?
Storybook Land Canal Boats
Walt Disney Presents
Man, I just don’t see how you can dislike the Country Bear Jamboree! This may be heresy, but I’ll be in the 5% that votes it over Tower of Terror in a month or so. (Nothing against ToT, that’s just much how I love Henry, Big Al, and the gang)
As far as I’m concerned, Tower of Terror is maybe the last great Disney ride… there have been good ones since then but nothing that combines technology, story, humor and atmosphere in quite the same way.
