We’re reaching a point in the bracket were I would be fascinated to see how results would have shaken out if these polls were down on old school Twitter.
I will say, the love for American in Paris throughout this tournament has surprised me a little. I like it a lot, but as I said last week, I don't think it holds a candle to Meet Me in St. Louis or Wizard of Oz or some of the other golden standards of the genre. Of course, I don't think Beauty and the Beast should have survived its matchup with Sound of Music either.
I would have voted for Meet Me in St. Louis over Beauty and the Beast, but I don't feel bad voting for BatB over American in Paris. Mostly because I'm definitely voting for Singin' in the Rain over either of these movies.
It’s funny, while I’ve always found Singin’ in the Rain’s ballet sequence to be its weakest link, I think An American in Paris lives and dies on its. I recently watched the film again and while it’s delightful throughout, nothing compares to that coda.
I ultimately went with Beauty and the Beast as it’s more consistent and appealing to my tastes, but I would have easily gone for Gene Kelly if this was Singin’, or the much under-appreciated It’s Always Fair Weather.
The ballet at the end of An American in Paris is pretty much the height of cinema to me, no offense to Beauty and the Beast but this is a gross miscarriage of justice!

A final matchup of Singin’ in the Rain and An American in Paris feels appropriate but sadly seems unlikely now.

AAiP gets lots of flak on Twitter, so I'm just happy to be with a group of people who love it like I do! :-)
Even if it loses this round, which looks likely, it made it much farther than I dared hope.
