Saw All That Jazz for the first time a few months back, and boy did I hate it. Other than the sequence in the dance studio and the finale, it's so bleak and meandering -- I am truly sad that I don't see in it what so many others do. And it's going to win here, but I felt largely about A Star Is Born how Josh did. They can't all be winners, right?
ThoughtPoints, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way about All That Jazz. So much talent in the service of so much bleakness. And the Airotica number was just plain exploitative (not just my opinion -- one of Fosse's longtime dancers, who was well used to him and his choreography and his creepy ways, walked off the set over it).
Confession time. While I have seen most of these I am not as familiar with musicals as I am with Disney attractions, movies, or background music. I often found I disagreed with your picks in those various brackets. So when I don’t have a preference in this bracket, I just vote for the opposite of your recommendation. Sorry.
i’ve never been angrier at you for making me choose between moulin rouge and that thing you do. i hope you sleep poorly tonight.
I've been up since 4:30 am, so...I hope I don't!
If you *must* have a deciding factor, consider: MOULIN ROUGE is actually a musical, and THAT THING YOU DO! is not.
indeed, that was what ultimately tipped the scales.
I took that into consideration, then went with my heart anyway. Sometimes I oneder why I do these things I do.
Phantom of the Paradise getting buried early… :/

I watched That Thing You Do! Every weekend once it was on VHS. I love it so much
