Lonesome Polecat. Enough said.

OK, a little more... I love Bye Bye Birdie -- as a stage musical. That movie is nuts. And then I say:

Russ Tamblyn.

Lonesome Polecat.

Seven Brides does not hold up well as a concept, but I’ll take the gloss of an MGM musical from the 50’s over Birdie any day.

The movie of Birdie is unfortunately awful if you are familiar with the stage version at all, and I agree that Seven Brides is a better film - it's far better directed and choreographed, that's for sure. But unfortunately I think Seven Brides might be a casualty of people knowing the movie it's up against more, just like Easter Parade was.

I'd be afraid of that happening with Swing Time too, except Help! is such a dud of a movie.

Seven Brides currently losing is hurting my heart! It's one of my favourite ever films, the barn raising dance is one of the best scenes in movie musicals!

I was Hugo in high school so have to vote Birdie. It’s the law.

Man did they drop the ball so hard on the screen version of Jersey Boys. The stage version is great! And then they made a movie that was mostly drama, not a lot of singing/dancing, it was boring, and they added a random dance number at the credits as if it made up for it. Nah, man.
