I will argue that it is grandfathered in considering that it not only has musical elements to start and characters singing multiple songs on screen, but has since inspired a stage musical. (And also, chaos.)
Man, School of Rock is SUCH a good movie. I recommend it to everyone. Arguably the best use to date of Jack Black’s particular persona (which typically works better in supporting roles) and the script is so tight.
Easter Parade is such a classic MGM movie musical, beautifully structured and performed with an insane line-up of musical numbers and it’s truly sad to see it losing so badly to a decent but less satisfying film.
Easter Parade should certainly be winning its match up (it's by far the better of the two Garlands today), but I guess the Diamonds sequence is too popular. Shame.
Also I'm a little surprised that Dancer in the Dark is losing in such a blow-out (I'll never forget renting it at age 17 and weeping at the end) but I get people liking School of Rock more. Especially now that we know how awful Von Trier was to Bjork.
Here to stump for Spirited. I love that movie. I don’t think it’s smug. And I think it’s made with a lot of joy. I voted for it. But I would have voted for My Fair Lady if I thought it would be close. Just throwing a little Christmas spirit towards Spirited.
[taps mic] SCHOOL OF ROCK? Great movie. Also not a musical.

You're just making this up as you go along, aren't you? 😁
No, I may have few methods to my madness, but I do plan ahead.

I've never understood Marilyn Monroe's place in our popular culture. But Judy - Judy I understand. All the votes for Judy.
I don’t think Dancer in the Dark sparked a cottage industry of music lessons *named after the film*. Advantage Linklater/Black!
I enjoyed Spirited, but given the match-up, have to vote for My Fair Lady.
