Pennies From Heaven is very good but Best Little Whorehouse is pure joy from start to finish. The former may have Walken but the latter has Charles Durning:

I’m okay with not voting for Babs today because Funny Girl is up later (but it’s not an easy matchup there, either).

This bracket is tough! Most of the films here have at least something that makes them memorable or important. Maybe it’s just the emotional sweep of musicals in general.

I will never get over the ridiculous casting of Gerard Butler. If Phantom had been a better-made movie with MUCH better casting, I might waver, but as it is, Music Man all the way.

I voted for Cherbourg because I find it to be ravishingly beautiful and eminently rewatchable (I think I've seen it in theaters alone four times already in my adult life), but if Yentl beats it I won't be too upset.

Other than that, not much to say about this round other than I was severely underwhelmed by Dreamgirls when I saw it. I'm not the biggest fan of Victor/Victoria either, but I'd rather watch that again than Dreamgirls.

It is absolutely insane that Umbrellas has even the faintest competition in this matchup.

Obviously I voted for The Music Man but in my hearts, I voted for rehearsal footage of Patrick Wilson casually flipping his sheet music: https://x.com/madeleinelily/status/1551265243753480193?s=46&t=9GDeMlks_jrBLlLI3p-VJw

I misvoted! I should have clicked on Phantom! (Not that it would have mattered much anyway, oops) I unapologetically love the 2004 phantom and the 2012 les Mis and I don’t care who knows.
