Our good friend Odie Henderson reminds me that Cabaret was only a Best Picture nominee, not a winner. But still the better film over Chicago!

If Dreamgirls was underrated, Chicago is the definition of over rated. I dislike the film purely out of spite, really.

Spinal Tap vs Blues Brothers is a toughie. Although I enjoy Spinal Tap more, my vote goes to Jake and Elwood as their film is much more of an actual musical.

If this were the Ultimate Movie Comedies Bracket, it’d be the other way. Maybe that should be a future bracket?

That was my thought too. I'm crazy about both of these films and watch them regularly, but this time I kept the theme in mind. Nothing against Christopher Guest and company--I've got all of their films ready to go on blu-ray. But they're not musicals.

Gah, Spinal Tap doesn’t have Aretha Franklin or Cab Calloway, but Blues Brothers doesn’t have Stonehenge. Tough call.

Jennifer Hudson deserves an Oscar ever single year for life for her performance in Dreamgirls. Don't let the bracket snub her.

Also Blues Brothers is simultaneously a comedy, musical and action film with the best car chase in cinema history. Vote Blues.

Spinal Tap is a smart movie about dumb people. Blues Brothers is a dumb movie about talented people. Both are fun, but Spinal Tap resonates much better.

Spinal Tap and Blues Bros being 50/50 many hours into voting is exactly right. I personally love Spinal Tap more, but there's no denying the power of the assembled greatness in Blues Bros.
