Raymond is kind of like the last of the Norman Lear shows in that regard, albeit less political. That’s part of its charm imo, and I like it better than the actual Lear production it’s up against
The Nanny is one of those 90s cornerstones that passed me by. Nothing against the show, it seems charming, but it’s just a gap that I never felt especially desired to fill.
I feel like even if I have seen and loved it though, I’d still vote for Taxi.
Which stand-up comic became a better actor by the end of their show’s run: Jerry Seinfeld or Ray Romano? They both learned a lot from more experienced actor costars.
Learning that not everyone agrees with me that Raymond is a true all-timer and should have a shot at winning the whole damn thing. Huh.
Marie Barone IS my grandmother. In the flesh. Made it a very cathartic show for my family. :-D
For reals. No show hits more truths on married life
Would be interesting to look across the 64 here - were any others “one plot” shows? Just an A plot, no B or C? Part of what made Raymond feel special.

Good point. Also, Raymond is on of the few shows where each lead was equally great
HOW DARE YOU! Designing Women vs. Murphy Brown!? UUGH!!
To this day my parents and I will ask each other, "What ... does ... a ... yellow ... light ... mean?" Iconic.
The weirdness of The Nanny walked so today's weird comedy could run. I'm pulling for Fran, labor icon <3
Yeah, Taxi vs The Nanny is really tough.

My vote is for Jerry, but it’s close.
Having seen Men of a Certain Age, I would say the answer is Romano and it’s not that close.
Great point- I wasn’t even considering their post-sitcom work, just the growth from pilot to finale of their respective sitcoms.
Ray has gone on to a fair amount of work, some of it really solid. Jerry went on to... be Jerry Seinfeld.
