Can you feel it in the air? I don’t just mean the onslaught of Thanksgiving and Black Friday deals, I mean the fact that we’re now halfway through the second round of the Ultimate TV Comedies bracket. Who’s excited to see what other shows move to the round of 32 seeds?
Well, whether you are or aren’t, it’s time to vote. Let’s go!
(1) M*A*S*H vs. (32) BoJack Horseman: I do adore BoJack Horseman — it’s arguably the best series Netflix aired — but…I mean, M*A*S*H is a true legend of comedy and drama. Hard to imagine the number-one seed falling today.
M*A*S*H
BoJack Horseman
(16) It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia vs. (48) The Jeffersons: Sometimes, I can essentially pass on a vote. (And of course, I don’t actually have a vote here.) This is one of those times, because I’ve only ever seen clips of either of these shows. I know that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been on forever (seemingly), and that The Jeffersons has a killer theme song. But that’s kind of it. I would wager that the newer show is going to win here, but…well, that’s up to you.
What do you think?
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
The Jeffersons
(8) Barney Miller vs. (25) Only Murders in the Building: So, while I do very much enjoy Only Murders in the Building, I’m voting here for Barney Miller. Part of the problem is that Only Murders is heavily reliant on the success of its various mysteries. The first season is close to perfect, in part because the mystery at its heart is close to perfect. The second season is a slight step down but very well done, because…well, so too is the mystery. Some in-progress comedies are better than older ones, but this time, I’m going with Barney.
How about you?
Barney Miller
Only Murders in the Building
(9) Community vs. (41) The Wonder Years: Is The Wonder Years enough of a comedy to leg it out to the third round? …well, no, I doubt it. Seems pretty safe to envision a scenario here where Community moves forward (and even beyond the next round), right? It’s certainly getting my vote here.
How about you?
Community
The Wonder Years
A vote against Troy and Abed is a vote against joy. Also, The Wonder Years was a drama about 50% of the time if I remember properly.
If you ever get the chance, please give Always Sunny a shot. It’s genuinely deserved more roses than it’s received over the years, and remains entertaining today.
