The Ultimate Walt Disney Company Performances Bracket -- Round Three, Day Eight
I'm like the Cryptkeeper!
Now, as you know by this point, I am not a mind-reader. I set the brackets up a certain way, but it’s anyone’s guess who makes it into certain rounds. But I will say, upon just scanning the matchups today, I think we’ll be saying goodbye to some talented live-action performers in favor of iconic voice work as we prepare to move to the fourth round.
Could I be wrong? That’s your call, so let’s dive right in!
(2) Robin Williams, Aladdin vs. (15) Samuel L. Jackson, Unbreakable: See, Samuel L. Jackson is looking bummed in that photo because he just saw that he’s facing off against Robin Williams here, and thus, he has no shot of winning. (I think he’s brilliant in Unbreakable, but…c’mon.)
I would be kind of amazed if there’s a surprise to come in this poll. Are you about to amaze me? Vote!
(7) Jerry Orbach, Beauty and the Beast vs. (10) Jamie Lee Curtis, Freaky Friday: I suppose this one might not automatically tilt towards Jerry Orbach, but he’s definitely getting my vote here. Part of it is just the material; Curtis is elevating a perfectly…y’know, a perfectly fine script in Freaky Friday, but Orbach has “Be Our Guest” to work with, and that alone kind of gets my vote.
How about you?
(3) Jodi Benson, The Little Mermaid vs. (19) Anne Hathaway, The Princess Diaries: Again, this one’s not super-challenging to me. I like Anne Hathaway just fine, but as noted in past newsletters, I am not a huge fan of The Princess Diaries. Against Jodi Benson as Ariel, Hathaway doesn’t stand a chance in my book.
But you write this story (see what I did there?), so why not throw a vote down below.
(6) Haley Joel Osment, The Sixth Sense vs. (43) Ben Stiller, The Royal Tenenbaums: Friends, I say a hearty (but not-serious) “for shame!” to all of you for voting Gene Hackman out at the start of this round. You can say, “Yes, Josh, but you set the brackets up this way, so it’s really your fault” all you want, but no, it is not! You voted! And as much as I love Pat Carroll’s work as Ursula, I would not have ever voted for her over the one and only Royal Tenenbaum.
Anyway, if he’s not going through this, then we all know Ben Stiller’s going down here (and he should, too). Weigh in!
Is his performance in The Royal Tenenbaums the best of Ben Stiller’s career? Probably.
It is a shame he is going to lose to the kid.
My problem with Benson is that we don't hear from her for a long time once she makes that deal with Ursula. (That guy who wasn't even that fine--Ariel, you need lessons on the hotness of mens you sacrifice for, gurl!) Since I know she's winning, I voted for Shakespeare's wife.
