As I wrote in my Slant piece on Toy Story 1 and 2, I find Jessie obnoxious (and that weepy ass "playing over an infomercial at 3am" song Randy Newman wrote for her just makes me even more misanthropic). Still, I think Joan has a harder role to play than John. But, I can't stand her character and I ain't voting for her. This is my first abstain since the polls moved here! As for James Earl Jones, "you must take your place in the Circle of Life" is a line of his I say all the time. So he got my voite, as did creepy Judge Doom.
I kinda don’t love Toy Story 2 (I feel like it falls apart a bit in the third act), and voting against John Cusack in his best role feels absolutely criminal, but man, Joan Cusack really is that good as Jessie. She’s heartbreaking.
Yes, it felt very odd to vote against John Cusack. Jessie's not my favorite as far as characters go, but I do love her song. Some think it's schmaltzy, but I'm not one of them. Judge Doom was a much simpler choice. The reveal scared the hell out of me, and I was no kid when I saw it.
