Well, friends, we’ve made it to the big day. Why, May the Furth, of course! Because I wish you a happy George Furth day! (Look him up.)
Anyway, the big news — aside from the fact that I am now on Bluesky (same handle as on Twitter) — is that it’s the final day of the Disney Theme-Park Background Music bracket. Only one loop can win, but two enter the thunderdome today.
Ready to vote? Let’s go!
(8) Soarin’ queue loop vs. (1) Epcot Entrance Plaza loop: Yes, I love both of these background loops. No, they probably wouldn’t have been in my Top Two. (Well, I know for sure they wouldn’t have been.) But even still, my choice here is clear. For each of you, the selection may be difficult.
For me, it’s all about the future. So yes, I will be voting for the Epcot Entrance Plaza loop. It’s nothing against the Soarin’ queue loop, which has many wonderful pieces of music, including the theme to my beloved Rocketeer. But the Epcot Entrance Plaza loop hits the right note of optimism and hope while reflecting the original state of that once-wonderful theme park. It gets my vote, no question.
How about you?
Soarin’ Queue
Epcot Entrance Plaza
The day has finally come where I must vote against Soarin’ and The Rocketeer. Sorry, James Horner, but the Epcot entrance plaza is the perfect marriage of form and function. It sounds like it looks and it looks like it feels and it feels like it sounds.
In a battle between these two, there is no loser. And while the Soarin' queue loop is filled with soaring optimism and beauty, the EPCOT Center entrance loop is filled with soaring optimism, beauty, and nostalgia. No matter how much I love the Soarin' loop (and I've listened to it for hours while working), it's not possible for me to vote against Retro EPCOT. But what a great final round!!
